Lip shape, proportion and what a consultation covers

Lips are assessed in the context of a face

The question people arrive with is usually about lips on their own. The assessment is not — it looks at proportion across the whole lower face, because a change to one feature changes how the others read.

This post is about what that assessment covers. It does not describe any treatment, product or technique. Those are discussed with you in person, after an assessment.

What a consultation covers

Your goals, in your words. What is bothering you, and what you are imagining. This matters more than it sounds — people describing the same change often mean quite different things by it.

Your facial proportions. Lips in relation to the chin, nose, jawline and the shape of your face.

Your lips as they are. Shape, balance between upper and lower, definition, and how they change when you talk and smile.

Your history. Previous treatments, how you responded, medications, conditions, cold sores, allergies.

Whether treatment is appropriate at all. Including when the answer is no, or not yet.

Expectations

The consultation covers what is realistically achievable for your face, and what is not.

Anatomy sets limits. So does the starting point. A consultation that does not talk about limits has not done its job — see what we will and will not treat.

Risks

Any cosmetic procedure in this area carries risk. These are discussed with you in full at your consultation before anything is booked, including what is common, what is rare, what to watch for afterwards, and how to reach us if something is not right.

We will not book a treatment you have not had that conversation about.

Questions people ask

What happens at the consultation?
We talk through your goals, assess your facial proportions, discuss what is realistic and set out the options — including doing nothing.

Is there an obligation to book?
No. The consultation stands on its own.

Is there a cost?
Yes — a $50 consultation fee, fully redeemable against a treatment or a skincare product purchased on the same day.

How do I know whether I am suitable?
That is what the assessment determines. It is not something a website can tell you.
