IPL skin treatments in Auburn
IPL — intense pulsed light — is used for two distinct groups of skin concerns at The Contour Hub. Which, if either, is appropriate for you is established at consultation.
IPL skin rejuvenation
For clients wanting to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, visible pigmentation and sun-related skin changes.
Related: pigmentation, dull skin
IPL for redness and vascular concerns
For selected areas of visible redness and superficial vascular concerns, subject to individual assessment.
Not all redness is suitable for light-based treatment, and some redness has causes that need a medical opinion rather than a cosmetic one. That is part of what the assessment establishes.
What to expect
Treatment parameters are selected following consultation and assessment of your skin type, your concerns, your medical history and your suitability.
Before treatment begins, we discuss suitability, what to expect, the potential risks, aftercare and the recommended treatment frequency.
Suitability and considerations
IPL targets pigment and blood vessels, which makes skin type and recent sun exposure central to whether it is appropriate.
Deeper skin tones require careful parameter selection and carry a higher risk of pigmentary change. Recent sun exposure or fake tan generally means waiting. Some medications increase light sensitivity. Melasma in particular can worsen with light-based treatment, so it needs specific assessment rather than assumption.
Persistent facial redness can have medical causes. Where that seems likely, we will suggest you see a GP rather than treat.
Questions people ask
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the concern and how you respond. A course is usual, and the number is discussed once we have assessed your skin.
Can IPL be used on melasma?
It needs careful assessment. Light and heat can aggravate melasma, so this is very much a consultation conversation rather than a yes or no.
Is there downtime?
It varies with the treatment and the settings used. We explain what to expect before you decide.
Is there a cost for the consultation?
Yes — a $50 consultation fee applies. It is fully redeemable against a treatment or a skincare product purchased on the same day.
